...sensitive building conversion in the heart of London's Covent Garden

Donmar Warehouse

Project summary

The Donmar Warehouse is a 250-seat theatre located in the heart of London’s West End. Under the artistic leadership of firstly Sam Mendes, then Michael Grandage and now Josie Rourke, it has gained a reputation as one of the UK’s leading producing theatres. It has presented some of London’s most memorable award-winning theatrical experiences and has garnered critical acclaim around the world.

A disused 19th-century warehouse on nearby Dryden Street was purchased, to be converted into new rehearsal rooms and office space. With Haworth Tomkins driving the project, Charcoalblue were appointed to design technical systems in the two rehearsal spaces. These now allow technical staff to efficiently set up rehearsal lighting and sound.
