HEPWORTH GALLERY
WAKEFIELD

PROJECT BUDGET: Confidential
COMPLETED: Spring 2011
PROJECT ARCHITECT: David Chipperfield Architects

...a revolutionary new space for art

Project summary

The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield is a landmark art gallery which houses the Barbara Hepworth maquettes, as well as a number of other permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Working closely with the architects, Charcoalblue designed a multi-functional space seating 100 people, with associated technical systems, including integrated touchscreen control of lighting, audio and video systems.

The multi-function room supports the work of the innovative gallery, and is used to host lectures and seminars associated with the gallery exhibitions, as well as by outside organisations for community events, seminars, meetings, music events, film and festivals.

"This is certainly one of the best new art galleries Britain has seen in decades."
